NBA 2K dropped a new trailer just a few days ago, and as expected, Victor Wembanyama is getting the nod as cover athlete for the Standard Edition.
Caitlin Clark, in her 3rd season, arguably the most famous WNBA player to date and the fastest WNBA player to reach 200 career 3-pointers, has weirdly declined an invitation to participate in this year's WNBA All-Star 3-Point Shooting Contest.
Nonetheless, in NBA 2K, she will grace the Deluxe Edition as its cover.
Lastly, the Ultra Edition has Derrick Rose, which, to my tastes, is a bit surprising, considering there wasn't any noise or hype surrounding the former NBA MVP.
I thought for sure it would be LeBron James, who recently signed an 8 million, 2-year deal to go and bring at least one championship to the city of brotherly love, the Philadelphia 76ers.
The two-year deal will ink the King's legacy of playing a quarter century in the league. A feat no player has ever done before, and alas, another achievement that might never be broken.

For the first time since NBA 2k14, there is no last-gen version, which means the game no longer has to account for hardware released in 2013.

Of the cover athletes, the one thing I'm absolutely adamant about not having is none other than a LeBron James cover.
I get that Derrick Rose is a seasoned vet, the youngest MVP in NBA history, and one of the most athletic guards ever to play the game.
The last time Rose was on the cover, it was Jay-Z himself who curated NBA 2K13's soundtrack.
But this might be the final two years that we'd see LeBron James play, and I think that matters more than a Derrick Rose cover.

Is There Anything New in NBA 2K27?
One of the best features in NBA 2K27 is the reworked Dunk Meter. The green window reads your defensive situation dynamically, starting from your takeoff all the way through your finish.
Your green window widens on a clean drive and tightens when help or a contest arrives.
That is a huge jump from 2K26 since contact dunks in this game are more about numbers and the meter held a fixed window regardless of what happened mid-air.
AI defenders are also getting some work done. One of the specific problems that 2K addressed is that AI teammates in modes like The REC were too easy to exploit through triple threat.
In 2K27, they are expected to contest shots more effectively and hold their ground better, although I wonder if EA's definition of "better AI" is one with unnatural speed or reaction time.
What I'm most interested in, however, is that MyPLAYER Builder is going from 40 badges to 53, with 19 new ones getting added after removing 6 from last year.
One of the badges I could already see making a difference is Pace, which increases sprint speed for ball handlers in all offensive situations.
This means that 2K27 will be favoring faster gameplay and transition offense rather than set plays.
As far as player build goes, it's a good bet to create a slasher build since all of the reworks will be in your favor.
The Auction House in MyTeam is now available for cross-platform across PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2 for the first time, with the cards hitting your collection instantaneously the moment you win a bid.
This is the largest that the market's ever been, and that means deeper card pools and a lot more consistent prices rather than whatever platform's happened to be hoarding.
In MyNBA, the second apron has been updated with its rules and no-trade clauses for free agents, which brings the franchise closer to how the league operates under the current CBA.
For GMs, constructing a roster is now harder, but also more realistic instead of just building a super team and bulldozing the competition for a decade.
