Truth be told, NBA 2K never had a lot of reasons to change the game's release date. An earlier release would be too close to the Madden 26 launch, and competing against the most popular sports game in the United States isn't a wise decision.
Most players wanted the game to follow its traditional release cycle, so the majority of the NBA 2K community is quite happy about this announcement. September feels like the sweet spot for the release of a basketball game based on the NBA, and NBA 2K certainly agrees with that.
