The new-look PlayStation Plus service has been confirmed along with the various tiers, pricing and a possible release date.

With all the buzz around the reveal - which was heavily preempted - has the announcement lived up to the hype? Let's take a look at what was shown...

PlayStation Plus Rebranded

Spartacus was a cool nickname but PlayStation Plus will continue as the name of the overall service but it will be broken down into 3 subscription tiers.

Everything is detailed below but for a shorter breakdown, here's how it works. The lowest tier includes PlayStation Plus as it exists today with no changes.

For the mid-tier offering, PS Now is basically folded into the service but excludes the PS3 or PS2 games that might be included and it's only PS4 & PS5 titles that can be downloaded.

The top tier then goes on to include downloadable and streamable PS1, PS2 and PSP titles. Streamable only PS3 titles and limited game trials. A total of over 700 games will be available on the service when it's expected to launch in June 2022

PlayStation Essential

  • Benefits:
  • Provides the same benefits that PlayStation Plus members are getting today, such as:
  • Two monthly downloadable games
  • Exclusive discounts
  • Cloud storage for saved games
  • Online multiplayer access
  • There are no changes for existing PlayStation Plus members in this tier.

  • Offers cloud streaming access for original PlayStation, PS2, PSP and PS4 games offered in the Extra and Premium tiers in markets** where PlayStation Now is currently available. Customers can stream games using PS4 and PS5 consoles, and PC.***
  • Time-limited game trials will also be offered in this tier, so customers can try select games before they buy.
