  • Quick Answer: Madden NFL 27 Arcade Edition arrives on Apple Arcade on August 6, 2026, available on iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple TV, and Apple Vision Pro, with Franchise Mode, Quick Play, no ads, and no in-app purchases of any kind.

EA Sports is bringing Madden NFL 27 to Apple Arcade on August 6, a week ahead of the full console and PC release on August 13.

The Arcade Edition is created specifically for Apple, and it comes down with something that I thought we wouldn't ever see in a game on mobile. No ads. No in-app purchases. But it does come with a very big caveat. NO ULTIMATE TEAM.

You got that right. Monetization doesn't exist here. Madden's Ultimate Team mode has been the "economic engine" of the franchise for years, but its absence here isn't exactly a creative choice or EA changing its ways.

Apple Arcade does not allow in-app purchases, which means the whole card-collecting economy that drives Ultimate Team simply cannot be present here.

What is left is Franchise Mode and Quick Plays, which for something that's built on-the-go, is exactly what you'd want for this game anyway.

Franchise Mode runs on what EA is calling the Narrative Messaging System, which generates scenarios throughout a season, and it's tied to your roster decisions, press conferences, and other events that branch depending on the choices you make.

Player ratings are updated weekly based on real NFL performances, which keeps things tethered to what is actually happening in the league.

Monthly custom franchise themes are also planned to be released, with the first one, Off-Season, starting with a fantasy draft before sending you into a condensed season with the team you assembled.

Quick Play, on the other hand, lets you skip all of that and just play a game with an NFL team.

Your progress also carries over between iPhone, Mac, Apple TV, and Apple Vision Pro, with controller support across all of them.

This is also the first Madden game to be localized in French, Spanish, German, and Italian on mobile, as EA pushes the international boundaries of the favorite American pastime.

Back on Mac

The last Madden game available on Mac was Madden NFL 08, released in 2007.

Whatever the reason for the nineteen-year gap, the Arcade Edition ends the drought, all that without requiring you to make any additional purchases via an Apple Arcade subscription.

What is clear, though, is that EA seems to be pushing the availability of Madden everywhere, having been recently released on Switch 2.

Now, whether or not it's really going to fill the void of letting you experience a full simulation is a question for another time.

Madden running natively on Mac is like a miracle, especially since a lot of current NFL players were still in middle school the last time the franchise was available on the platform. That is a lot of years to ponder.

Madden NFL 27 Arcade Edition launches on August 6, 2026.

If you're new to Apple and unsure about getting the game, Apple Arcade also comes with a 30-day free trial.
